JAMIE ASTON INTERVIEW
Visiting Jamie Aston’s shop is like walking into Aladdin’s cave, an eclectic space filled with the most gorgeous array of flowers and vases of all shapes and sizes. We’ve come to talk to Jamie about all things flowers including those all important questions, how much should I budget for flowers on my big day?
What inspired you to become a florist? “I just loved the industry and I knew I could push the industry further than simply working in a flower shop. I was enthralled by the challenge of changing a slightly dated industry into a modern and different world.”
What is the most extravagant wedding floral arrangement you have done? “An incredible wedding we did in the South of France for a client of ours. It was a stunning private wedding in a French chateau filled with flowers, the ceremony in the gardens was so opulent. We had orchids flown in from England which was quite the logistical challenge!!”
How long does a bride need to book in advance for her flowers? “6 months ideally, however there really is no need to come to us any earlier than this as the flowers that are in season for your wedding day most likely won’t be available until 3 months before so you won’t be able to see samples until then anyway.”
What budget should a bride be considering for Jamie Aston wedding flowers? “Anything from £5,000 upwards for a large wedding where the bride would like the florist to be involved in all aspects (ceremony, reception, bridal flowers etc). Our average bride spends between £6,000 to £8,000.”
What’s your favourite colour/flowers for a bridal bouquet? “I love dusky blues and whites together, the pastels have an almost regal summer feel to them. For weddings, hydrangeas make the most impact for me, the large heads in all arrangements create a beautiful effect.”
