It all began in 1952, when Elie Ward established his couture house in the heart of Beirut. Known for his refined taste and high-quality tailoring skills, all the best dressed ladies in the city were seeking his gowns for their special occasions. Elie’s son -Tony Ward, therefore grew up with tailoring in his DNA, surrounded by beautiful fabrics from the beginning. He eventually took over the family atelier to make the Ward name famous on an international scale. With flagship stores opening up in all the major fashion capitals of the world since 2005, Tony Ward has helped the family Atelier that is still based in Beirut, flourish.

Elie Ward

At the age of 18 Tony left Lebanon and moved to Paris, where he enrolled at the prestigious school “Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne”. It was here he learnt to perfect his talent for design and developed his own individual style, inspiring him to one day launch his own label. After his studies, Tony designed for major fashion houses in the city. He worked for the biggest names in the industry at that time, from Claude Montana at Lanvin, to Gianfranco Ferre at Christian Dior and Karl Lagerfeld at Chloe.

Towards the millennium, Tony moved back to Beirut and established his own label “Tony Ward Couture”. His talent, combined with the master craftsmanship of the family atelier led him to create couture gowns inspired by femininity and sophistication. With increasing international demand for his designs, the first couture showroom outside of Lebanon opened in Moscow in 2007. Since then, the brand has continued to grow and can now be found in all major fashion capitals of the world, from Moscow to New York, and today includes Browns Bride in London.

With the history of the Atelier spanning over 65 years, Tony Ward has succeeded in transcending the fashion house into the 21st century, by focusing his designs around today’s modern woman. Whether it be for a ready to wear gown, or for a wedding dress – it is clear that Tony Ward manages to encapsulate everything that is timeless in couture designing.
